How does 5050 work?

Using the latest Epoxy/EPS materials; the 50/50 tech brings together a lightweight EPS core with High-Grade Fibreglass Cloth finished off with a performance focused Carbon Fibre Frame and Epoxy Resin.

Carbon Fibre Frame: a parabolic carbon frame around the edges of the deck and combined with complementary linear carbon stringers underneath has been designed to create the ultimate in controlled flex patterns. The familiar feel given by the flex of the liner carbon stringers allows for easy speed generation while the deck's carbon frame gives controlled twisting through the front two thirds of the surfboard. This allows the surfer to generate speed and drive with ease.

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam is typically the lightest of the three foams used in surfboard construction resulting in a snappier feel that translates to plenty of buoyancy and flotation. The lower the density of the blank, the lighter the board will be and the more float you will get. The advantage of increased buoyancy adds paddle speed as well as increased manoeuvrability giving you the option of riding a smaller board. The EPS foam core has also been tested to deteriorate more slowly over time!

Epoxy Resin is proven to be a healthier alternative to polyester resin as epoxy emits 50-75% fewer VOCs (volatile organic compounds) than polyester resin> The leads to a decrease in harmful chemicals in the bay and the environment in general. Epoxy is even safe to use without a mask and with only moderate ventilation. Epoxy resin is also lighter than polyester. A lot of the time, resin has a large effect on the overall weight of the board. Not only is epoxy lighter than polyester, but you also need less per coat. The end result is a lighter surfboard as well as increased strength and durability.

All 50/50 boards are constructed using a 36gram EPS core with a refined carbon fibre frame, each board is hand laminated using epoxy resign and high grade fibreglass on the deck providing a very light board that feels fast and responsive under your feet increasing performance in a wide variety of conditions!
